The Arlene Wintczak Memorial Internships

The Fox Valley Concert Band is pleased to announce the Arlene Wintczak Memorial Internships in memory of FVCB founding member and percussion section leader, Arlene Wintczak.

Details:

Up to six internships will be awarded of up to $400 each year (2 for each period: summer, fall, and winter/spring).

Internship stipends are to be used only for private tuition or summer music camp.

bullet

Winners will rehearse and perform with the Fox Valley Concert Band for up to 16 weeks (see details below).  They may also be required to fulfill other minor administrative roles with the band.

Winners may be included as featured soloists on concerts.

bullet

Awards are renewable.

bullet

Eligibility criteria (below) must be met to receive an internship.

An applicant must have the consent of high school music director, parent, and private teacher (if applicable) to apply.

bullet

Internship periods will be May through August, September through December, and January through May.

Eligibility:

bullet

Applicant must be participating in a high school music program in Illinois (we may consider a mature student in junior high).

bullet

Applicant must be a high school sophomore or junior to apply for the following season and must be a junior or senior in high school during the internship period (we may consider mature younger students).

Applicant must have a high level of musicianship and musical maturity.

bullet

Applicant must audition on the date announced.

bullet

Applicant must be able to attend all rehearsals and performances if awarded an internship.

Auditions:

will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Geneva High School.

bullet

take approximately 10 minutes, and will include this year's IMEA materials (please bring a copy for the appropriate instrument).  Click here for a link (6.9 MB pdf file). Applicants are encouraged to bring other prepared materials with them to play.

will be administered by the Music Director of the Fox Valley Concert Band, Dr. Colin Holman.

require the applicant to attend the rehearsal on September 7.

Application:

is due by Tuesday, August 31, 2010, and may be e-mailed to president@fvcb.org or conductor@fvcb.org, faxed to (847) 628-5744 (attn: FVCB), mailed to the FVCB PO Box 1422, St. Charles, IL 60174 or brought to the first rehearsal.

fee is $15.00 and will be refunded to award recipients.  The fee must be received by August 31, 2010 to reserve an audition time.

Rehearsals and Scheduled Upcoming Concerts:

Fox Valley Concert Band rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 in the Geneva High School band room.  Rehearsals begin September 7, 2010 (applicants are required to attend this rehearsal) and end approximately November 30, 2010 for the fall concert session.

Please do NOT apply for this internship if you know there are conflicts (e.g., school concerts, family vacations) with these dates in the concert season(s) for which you indicate you are available.  By signing your application, your school music director and parent/guardian acknowledge that they do not know of any such conflicts.

The Arlene Wintczak Memorial Internships are awarded solely on the basis of the applicants' demonstrated musical abilities and availability.  No consideration is given to any other factor, such as an applicant's sex, race, national origin, religion, disabilities, or economic circumstances.  An applicant's age is only relevant insofar as the internship awards are limited to specific high school class levels.
